Review of UNFPA-funded population programme in Asia and the Pacific

Paid a short visit to Bangladesh to review the impact on Bangladesh of ESCAP's UNFPA-funded population programme. This was part of a larger evaluation, which I carried out with two other consultants, covering eight projects in Asia and the Pacific.

Sampling for the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS)

Provided technical support on the sample design and revision of the sampling frame for MICS 2005 in Bangladesh, to bring it into line with the new MICS 3 methodology.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the three countries I visited, along with another consultant. (The other two countries were Burkina Faso and Lesotho.) The visit was part of UNICEF's review of how well the MICS methodology (for measuring the achievement of mid-decade goals) was implemented in about 60 countries around the world. Met with key government and UNICEF staff involved in the MICS survey.

Assisted with training of field staff, gave advice on problems relating to the weighting of survey data, analysed the survey data and prepared a final report. The report is available (in 2008) here
